I'm an international student and I go to school here in Montreal, meaning I spend a majority of my time in the city. However, my car and plates are registered to New York State. What would happen if I left the tickets without paying them? Thank you for any help!

You first will be reported to the Quebec Securité (provincial police) and then into the database as a violater and your priveleges to drive in Québec will be suspended and you will be arrested if stopped again or your car is noted by a cop doing random checking of license plate numbers - which they do all the time). Then Québec will report you to the New York authorities which will either act to suspend your license or registration, or both, until notified by Québec that you have paid (plus any penalties).

Believe me, I KNOW!!!!

If left unpaid for several years, the interest accumulated will put the total amount in the thousands of dollars. The next time you apply for a credit card or bank loan you will be denied because of outstanding amounts owed.

It will remain in the books and, in the end will haunt you. Be nice pay it.
