How much French do you need to know to get around in Montreal?

The more you know the easier it will be. @ least learn to Say “Excuse me, I do not speak French, do you speak English" I find that if you make an effort people will help you. However, you can manage in the city quite well w/ out any French @ all.

You can get around without knowing any at all. Most residents are bi-lingual in English. If you go further out to the area surrounding Quebec City you may find it necessary to bring a guidebook, just in case.



If you do know a little, it may be fun to practice your French on a waiter or shopkeeper.
